Swim team

Swim team training groups

To prepare and support swimmers in skill development and competition, training for the Dad’s Club Swim Team is organized by age level and ability, as well as speed, maturity, attitude, endurance and level of commitment to the team and sport. Following evaluation, our expert coaching staff places Swim Team candidates within a group. Changes and advancement are at the discretion of our coaches and staff, and decisions are finalized by the Head Age Group Coach and Head Coach.

Age group programs

(14 and under)

White Training Group

The White group is comprised of entry-level novice swimmers ages 6-10. Emphasis isplaced on developing the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes.Practices utilize in-the-water drills, games and exercises, which allowswimmers to learn total-body coordination to help their stroke mechanics.Practices are geared to create an enjoyable atmosphere for instruction.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered two times a week for 45 minutes each session.
  • Meets average one per month and are held on weekends.
Age:

Minimum of 6 years old

Requirements:
  • Swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke without stopping
  • Proper flutter kicking mechanics and side breathing on freestyle.

Blue Training Group

The Blue groups are comprised of swimmers ages 7-12 who can perform freestyle andbackstroke. Swimmers must also have a legal breaststroke kick and anunderstanding of butterfly. Blue groups are broken up into 3 separatesub-groups: Blue 1, Blue 2 and Blue 3. Emphasis in the Blue group is on strokemechanics, sportsmanship and the rules of competitive swimming. This groupbegins to learn basic training techniques for speed and endurance.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered three times a week for one hour each session.
  • Meets average one per month and are held on weekends.
Age:

Minimum of 7 years old

Requirements:
  • Freestyle,backstroke, breaststroke kick and an understanding of breaststroke and butterfly.

Bronze Training Group

The Bronze group is comprised of moderate to advanced swimmers ages 8-10. The focus of this group is the continued development of stroke mechanics and competitiverules, with an increase in training. This group introduces dryland training, mentaltraining and team building. Success of each individual swimmer is based on anincreased commitment level in attendance and practice effort.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered five times a week for one hour and 30 minutes each session with dryland workouts twice a week.
  • Swimmers in this group attend both local and state-level meets.
Age:

8-10years old (8 year old swimmers must age up before the first championship meetof the season).

Requirements:
  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally
  • Must be able to perform competitive turns
  • Must meet the training standards and display the ability to handle the volume and intensity of the workouts
  • Swimmeet attendance is expected

Silver Training Group

The Silver groups are comprised of swimmers ages 11-14 and are broken into threesub-groups: Silver 1, Silver 2 and Silver 3. The focus of these groups is to continue the progression of stroke mechanics with an increased emphasis on training. This group continues with dry land exercises, but increases time spent in the water. Silver group swimmers are striving to maximize their age group abilities.

Practices and meets:
  • Silver1 and Silver 2 practices are offered five times a week for 1 hour and 30minutes
  • Silver3 practices are offered five times a week for 1 hour and 45.
  • Swimmers in this group attend local and regional meets. Silver 3 swimmers are expectedto attend meets.
Age:

11-14 years old

Requirements:
  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally with good stroke mechanics
  • Must be able to perform competitive turns
  • Silver2 and Silver 3 swimmers must meet the training standards and display the ability to handle the volume and intensity of the workouts

Gold Training Group

The Gold group is comprised of some of our most skilled and experienced age-group swimmers ages 12 to 14. Swimmers in this group are expected to make a strong commitment with respect to attendance and training effort. Swimmers continue with dryland training and are introduced to advanced team building and mental and physical training concepts. Goal setting and race strategies are also developed in this group. Workouts are designed to improve endurance, speed and stroke technique.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered six times a week for 2 hours and are excepted to make as many practices as possible.
  • Swimmers in this group attend local, regionaland state level meets
Age:

12-14 years old

Requirements:
  • One-year commitment
  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally with good stroke mechanics
  • Must display proper sportsmanship, attitude, work ethic and commitment
  • Swim meet attendance is required
  • 12 year old swimmers must have 3 or more USA Swimming Motivational “A” times in order to be considered for the group. 13-14 swimmers must have 1 or more USA Swimming Motivational “A” times plus two “BB” times.
  • Swimmers must have legal times in the 100’s of each stroke, the 200 IM and the 400/500Free.
  • Must meet the training standards and display the ability to handle the volume and intensity of the workouts.

senior programs

Senior Training Group

The Senior group is comprised of swimmers ages 15 and up. Swimmers in this group are striving to perform well at the high school and regional level. Swimmers are introduced to advanced team building and mental and physical training concepts, and they learn how to maximize these skills. Goal setting and racestrategies are also developed in this group. Workouts are designed to improveendurance, speed and stroke technique.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered six times a week for 2 hours.
  • Swimmersin this group attend local and regional competitions.
Age:

Minimum age is 14 years old (All 14-year-old swimmers considered must be in high school and aging up before the first championship meet of the season.)

  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally
  • Must display proper sportsmanship, attitude, work ethic and commitment
  • Must meet the training standards and display the ability to handle the volume andintensity of the workouts

National Prep Training Group

The National Prep group is comprised of swimmers ages 15-18. Swimmers in this group are striving to achieve multiple sectional time standards. Swimmers areintroduced to more advanced mental and physical training concepts, and they learn how to maximize these skills. Goal setting and race strategies alsocontinue to be developed. Workouts are designed to improve endurance, speed andstroke technique.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered eight times a week, between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours long and are expected to make as many practices as possible.
  • Swimmers in this group attend local, regional, state and national level meets.
Age:

Minimum age is 14 years old (All 14-year-old swimmersconsidered must be in high school and aging up before the first championshipmeet of the season.)

Requirements:
  • One year commitment
  • Must display great sportsmanship, attitude, work ethic and commitment
  • Swim meet attendance is required
  • Swimmers must have a minimum of two 15-year-old USA Swimming Motivational Single Age Group “AA” times in order to be considered for the group.
  • Mustmeet the training standards and display the ability to handle the volume andintensity of the workouts.

National Training Group

This National group is comprised of swimmers at the highest ability level from ages14 to college. This group maximizes mental, physical and team building skills.Goal setting and race strategies continue to be developed. Endurance, speed andperfection of stroke technique are expected at this level. Total commitment toall aspects of competitive swimming is expected in this group.

Practices and meets:
  • Practices are offered eight times a week, between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours long and are expected to make as many practices as possible.
  • Swimmersin this group attend local, regional, state and national level meets.
Age:

15 and over; 14 yr. with NCSA Jr. National and Futures cuts may be considered.

Requirements:
  • One-year commitment
  • Must display great sportsmanship, attitude, work ethic, commitment and a goal oriented mindset.
  • Swim meet attendance is required
  • Swimmers must have 3 or more Sectional time standards in order to be considered for the group.

The requirements above only serve as the first step in being considered for the National Group. When a swimmer is considered for potential move-up into the National group, the coach will set up a meeting with the swimmer and parents to discuss additional factors, including commitment, attendance, attitude and work ethic.
