Safety Academy

At Dad’s Club, we’re dedicated to providing a safe, diverse and welcoming environment. Through our Safety Academy, we’re proud to offer training and certification for the next generation of lifeguards.

We’re Hiring Lifeguards!
Dad's Club is seeking lifeguards age 16* or older! (Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old by the end of summer.)

Certified Lifeguards who are 21 or older will be considered for supervisory positions. If you are a Certified Lifeguard, please apply through our Employment Application.

Safety Academy
Lifeguard Training 

Our Lifeguard Training certification class is a blended program, with both web-based and practical training. Classes are open to individuals 15 and older and classes cover the following training areas:

  • lifeguard training
  • CPR
  • bloodborne pathogens
  • emergency oxygen administration
  • epi-pens
  • inhalers

Class length: 3 days (21 hours total)

Fees and Pricing

Class and certificate of completion:

$300 (All fees are non-refundable.)

Friday:         6:00pm - 9:00pm

Saturday:     9:00am - 6:00pm

Sunday:       9:00am - 6:00pm

A Note About COVID-19

If you are still choosing to be COVID-cautious, you are welcome to bring two household members who are strong swimmers to be your victim and assistant. Those household members must agree to attend all day on Saturday and Sunday; one member must be 18 or over and the other member must be at least 13 years of age. The adult participant must be willing to sign a release of liability, while a guardian must sign the release form for anyone under the age of 18.

requirements:
  • swim 300 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing (Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.)
  • tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs (Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.)
  • complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
  • starting in the water, swim 20 yards (Swim goggles not allowed.)
  • surface dive, feet-first or headfirst, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object
  • return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface and able to get a breath
  • exit the water without using a ladder or steps

additional requirements:
  • Complete and pass the seven-hour web-based portion prior to the start of the first in-person class
  • Turn in the certificate of online course completion at the beginning of the first class
  • Attend all three consecutive, in-person classes
  • Complete and pass both written and in-water American Red Cross Lifeguard skills testing

Please note that candidates must be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
