Safety Academy

At Dad’s Club, we’re dedicated to providing a safe, diverse and welcoming environment. Through our Safety Academy, we’re proud to offer training and certification for the next generation of lifeguards.

BABYSITTER'S TRAINING

From hands-on practice to real-life scenarios, you’ll master essential child care skills that will equip you to be the best babysitter in the game. All participants will receive a Red Cross Babysitter's backpack with a Training handbook and a First Aid Kit Keychain.

Cost: 150.00

The Course:

Designed by science experts and trusted by parents, this instructor-led course will prepare participants ages 11 - 16 for babysitting success both in and outside the class through:

· Skill Videos and Hands-On Practice

· Video-based guided Discussions

· Lively Activities and Conversation

· Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED: blended learning online format.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Welcome to our Junior Lifeguard training course at the Dad’s Club Aquatic Center for ages 11 - 14. This course teaches water safety and introduces participants to the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard through fun skills, drills and classroom modulars. It will build a great  foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills in water safety and  emergency  preparedness.

Successful completion requires participation in skills practice. To participate in Junior Lifeguarding, the following skills must be demonstrated:

■   Step into water from the side and totally submerge.

■   Maintain position for one minute by treading water or floating (or a combination of the two).

■    Rotate one full turn and orient to the exit.

■    Level off and swim on the front or back 25 yards.

■    Exit without using a ladder or step

NOTE:  

This course does not certify participants to be a lifeguard.

The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. You are encouraged to check with your family health-care professional before participating in the practice sessions. If a medical condition or disability exists that might prevent participation in the activities, or if there are questions about fully participating in Junior Lifeguarding, please contact me to discuss this before the program begins.

We’re Hiring Lifeguards!
Dad's Club is seeking lifeguards age 16* or older! (Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old by the end of summer.)

Certified Lifeguards who are 21 or older will be considered for supervisory positions. If you are a Certified Lifeguard, please apply through our Employment Application.

Safety Academy
Lifeguard Training 

Our Lifeguard Training certification class is a blended program, with both web-based and practical training. Classes are open to individuals 15 and older and classes cover the following training areas:

  • lifeguard training (good for 2 years)
  • CPR (good for 2 years)
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training (good for 1 year)

Class length:

7 Hour online portion

2 days in person classes (21.5 hours)

Lifeguard Training Certification Class Schedule

Saturday:     8:00am - 6:45 pm

Sunday:       8:00am - 6:45 pm

requirements:
  • Minimum age: 15 years
  • Complete a swim- tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water submerge resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both) maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs then swim 50 yards using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both.
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point holding the object at the surface with both hand exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
additional requirements:
  • Complete and pass the 7 hour web-based portion prior to the start of the first in-person class. Blended learning link will be emailed out 2 weeks prior to the start of the class. Do not use phones or tablets for Red Cross Blended learning classes. Use a laptop or desk top and use Firefox for Google Chrome.
  • Turn in the certificate of online course completion at the beginning of the first class at 8:00am on Saturday morning.
  • Attend all in-person classes
  • Complete and pass both written and in-water American Red Cross Lifeguard skills testing

Please note that candidates must be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
