Training Groups

Requirements for membership in the various training groups are based on ability, age, speed, maturity, attitude, toughness in practices, and commitment level. The coaching staff is responsible for placement into the appropriate group. Move-ups are ultimately up to coaches' discretion. All changes between groups are discussed among coaching staff and finalized by the Head Age Group Coach and Head Coach.

Age Group Programming 14 & Under

WHITE

This group is comprised of entry level novice swimmers, ages 6 - 10. Emphasis is placed on developing the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes. The practices combine in the water and dry land drills, games, and exercises. This allows for swimmers to learn total body coordination to help their stroke mechanics. The practices are geared to create an enjoyable atmosphere for instruction. This group participates in inter-squad meets on a regular basis. Practices are offered two times a week for 45 minutes each session.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years old.

  • Swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke without stopping

  • Wear competitive suit, cap, and goggles.

BLUE

This group is comprised of swimmers ages 7-12 who can perform freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers must also have a legal breaststroke kick and an understanding of butterfly. Emphasis in Blue group is on stroke mechanics, sportsmanship, and the rules of competitive swimming. This group begins to learn basic training techniques for speed and endurance. This group continues to use both dry land and water training. Swimmers in this group begin attending local swim meets. Practices are offered three times a week for one hour each session.

  • Minimum of 7 years old

  • Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke kick

  • Wear competitive suit, cap, and goggles.

BRONZE

This group is comprised of moderate to advanced swimmers ages 8-10. The focus of this group is to continue the development of stroke mechanics and competitive rules with an increase in training. This group introduces mental training and team building. Success of each individual swimmer is based on an increased commitment level in attendance and practice effort. Swimmers in this group attend both local and state level meets. Practices are offered five times a week for one hour and 30 minutes each session.

Requirements

  • Age is 8-10 years old.

  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally.

  • Must be able to make 10 x 50 Freestyle on 1:00 and 6 x 50 Kick on 1:20

  • Meet attendance expected.

  • Wear competitive suit, cap, and goggles.

SILVER

Our Silver groups are comprised of swimmers ages 11-14 and are broken into 3 sub groups: Silver 1, Silver 2 and Silver 3. The focus of these groups are to continue the progression of stroke mechanics with an increased emphasis on training. This group continues dry land exercises, but increases time spent in water. These swimmers are striving to maximize their age group abilities. Swimmers in this group attend local, and regional meets. Practices are offered five times a week for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes each session.

Requirements

  • Age is 11-14 years old.

  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally with good stroke mechanics.

  • Practice sets 10 x 100 free yards on 1:30 or 5 x 200 IM on 3:30.

  • Equipment:

    • Pull buoy

    • Paddles

    • Snorkel


GOLD

This group is comprised of some of our most skilled and experienced age-group swimmers ages 12 to 14. Swimmers in this group are expected to make a strong commitment with respect to attendance and training effort. Swimmers are introduced to advanced team building and mental and physical training concepts. Goal setting and race strategies are also developed in this group. Workouts are designed to improve endurance, speed and stroke technique. Practices are offered 6 times a week.

Requirements

  • One year commitment.

  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally with good stroke mechanics.

  • Super sportsmanship, attitude, and work ethic.

  • Meet attendance required

  • Minimum of 80% practice attendance required.

  • Age requirement:
    12-14 yr (11yr girls)

    Swimmers must achieve both the designated time standards and practice requirements in order to be
    considered for the Gold group. Legal times will also be required in the 100 of each stroke, 200IM and 400/500free.
    1. 12 yr. (11yr girls) swimmers will need a minimum of 3 A times.
    13-14 yr. swimmers will need a minimum of 1 A time and 2 BB times.
    2. Swimmers must complete all 3 of the following sets during the same practice.
    8x100 free on 1:30 yards/ 1:40 meters
    8x100 kick on 2:05 yards/2:20 meters
    5x200 IM on 3:10 yards/3:30 meters
    3. Swimmers must have a legal time in each of the following events:
    400/500 free, 200 IM, 100 back, 100 breast and 100 fly.

    Once considered as a potential move-up the coach will set up a meeting with the swimmer and parents to discuss the other factors:

Senior Programming 15 & Over

SENIOR

This group is comprised of swimmers ages 15-18. Swimmers in this group are striving to perform well at the High School and Gulf level. Swimmers are introduced to advanced team building and mental and physical training concepts and learn how to maximize these skills. Goal setting and race strategies are also developed in this group. Workouts are designed to improve endurance, speed and stroke technique. Practices are offered 6 times a week.

Requirements

  • Minimum age is 14 years old. All 14 year old swimmers considered must be in high school and aging up before the first Championship meet of the season.

  • Swim all four competitive strokes legally

  • Good sportsmanship, attitude, and work ethic

  • Practice sets required:

  • a. 8x100 free on 1:30 yards/ 1:40 meters

  • b. 8x100 kick on 2:05 yards/2:20 meters

  • c. 5x200 IM on 3:15 yards/3:35 meters

NATIONAL PREP

This group is comprised of swimmers ages 15-18. Swimmers in this group are striving to achieve multiple Sectional time standards. Swimmers are introduced to more advanced mental and physical training concepts and learn how to maximize these skills. Goal setting and race strategies also continue to be developed. Workouts are designed to improve endurance, speed and stroke technique. Practices are offered 8 times a week.

Requirements

  • Great sportsmanship, attitude, work ethic and a goal oriented mind set.

  • Meet attendance required

  • Minimum of 80% practice attendance required.

  • Swimmers must have a minimum of two 15 year old AA time standards

  • Age requirements are:

    • 15 & over

NATIONAL GROUP

This group is comprised of swimmers at the highest ability level ages 14 to college. This group maximizes mental, physical, and team building skills. Goal setting and race strategies are continued to develop. Endurance, speed, and perfection of stroke technique are expected at this level. Total commitment to all aspects of swimming is expected in this group. All swimmers in this group must strive to contend at state, national, and international competitions. Practices are offered 8 times a week.

  • Great sportsmanship, attitude, work ethic and a goal oriented mind set.

  • Meet attendance required

  • Minimum of 80% practice attendance required.

  • Three sectional time standards for consideration

  • Age requirements are:

    • 15 & over

    • 14 yr. with NCSA Jr. National and Futures cuts may be considered.
